The problem
You Have No Idea Which Eggs Are Actually Fresh
Stacked cartons on a fridge shelf hide the one thing that actually matters — you can't tell which eggs went in first and which are days newer. So you grab whichever one's on top, not the one you should actually be using, and the ones buried at the bottom sit forgotten until you find them weeks later, past their best.
It gets worse every time you restock. New eggs get placed wherever there's room — often in front of the older ones — so the freshest sit ready to grab while the oldest quietly age in the back. One wrong reach and a carton tips, or an egg rolls off the edge onto the floor. And with two half-open cartons taking up an entire shelf, there's barely room left for anything else.
If you're rotating eggs by guesswork instead of by what's actually oldest, you're not just risking a mess — you're throwing eggs away that never needed to go to waste.
